The Los Angeles Lakers haven’t made the trade of D’Angelo Russell to the Brooklyn Nets official yet, but president of basketball operations Magic Johnson was quick to react to the front office he’s leading selecting Lonzo Ball with the No. 2 pick Thursday night.
Magic jumped on Twitter to share the news, calling Ball the front office’s “first choice” among the lottery prospects they looked at:
Rob & I were able to get our first choice this evening. Laker Nation get ready, we are off to a great start. Welcome to the team Lonzo Ball!

The Lakers were kind enough to share video of the Lakers making the call for Lonzo, and clearly everyone in the room is thrilled:

Kevin Ding of Bleacher Report has maintained that the Lakers have had Ball at the drop of their draft board going back to when they landed the No. 2 pick, so hey, maybe that’s the case.
