The craziest NBA offseason in recent memory just got crazier, with the Cleveland Cavaliers parting ways with general manager David Griffin after by far the most successful run in franchise history.
As if that wasn’t enough of a plot twist, Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical reports that Chauncey Billups is “expected to emerge” as a candidate to be the team’s president of basketball operations and hire their next general manager.
It’s unknown if Billups would be considering Lakers director of player personnel Ryan West for the Cavaliers GM job, but according to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, “if Chauncey Billups ends up top basketball man in Cleveland” he expects Billups :to consider Lakers' Ryan West as [a] key member of his staff.”
West was already expected to be departing the Lakers to join his father, Jerry West, with the LA Clippers and given all the noise, it seems all but a certainty he won’t be with the Lakers by the end of the summer.
