Larry Nance, Jr. and David Nwaba spent their memorial day in the Lakers’ gym

Two grinders decided to skip the holiday.

As the Los Angeles Lakers front office and coaching staff filter various 2017 NBA Draft prospects through the team’s practice facility, one of the interesting tidbits reporters have been keeping an eye on is which current members of the team are showing up for their own workouts.

Most of the Lakers’ young roster has made various appearances, but according to Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times, Monday there were just two players spending their holiday in the gym: Larry Nance, Jr. and David Nwaba.

It’s no surprise that two of the Lakers’ hardest-working players were hitting the gym on a national holiday, although it’s important to note this shouldn’t be used as a criticism of their teammates for not showing up for a voluntary workout. There are gyms all over the place, and various other members of the team could be working out later, or elsewhere, or have already worked out in the morning.

They could also be taking a break to enjoy Memorial Day like everyone else, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Nance and Nwaba didn’t want a day off though, and it’s good to see the players putting in time at the gym even when they have an easy excuse not to.
