NBA Free Agency Rumors: The Lakers worked out multiple free agents this week

You might have even heard of some of them!

The Los Angeles Lakers front office has mostly kept itself busy this summer by holding pre-draft workouts in preparation for the 2017 NBA Draft, but draft-eligible players aren’t the only ones the team is looking at.

Alex Kennedy of Hoopshype reports that the Lakers Brady Heslip, Eric Moreland, Brandon Ashley, Elgin Cook, Justin Cobbs, Alec Brown, Stephan Hicks and Jerrelle Benimon on Wednesday.

All eight players are currently free agents with varying levels of NBA or D-League pedigree, and likely are being looked at for a shot to make the Lakers’ Las Vegas Summer League roster.

Heslip is probably the biggest “name” of the bunch after helping the Raptors 905 win the D-League title this year while averaging 16.1 points per game, but it’s hard to see him cracking the actual Lakers’ roster given the team’s logjam of guards, especially if they draft Lonzo Ball with the second overall pick.

None of these players should be considered anything close to a lock to make an impact on the Lakers, but the front office continuing to do their due diligence on every possible option it has will likely make a difference for the team down the line.
