The Los Angeles Lakers will work out Kentucky Wildcats guard De’Aaron Fox midway through June, according to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News. Medina reports that Fox will work out for the Philadelphia 76ers, who will pick third in the 2017 NBA Draft. The Lakers have the second overall pick.
Fox, who is ranked fifth among Draft Express’ top-100 prospects in the draft, averaged 16.7 points, four rebounds and 4.6 assists in his one and only season in Kentucky. The Lakers reportedly “love” Fox after interviewing him at the 2017 NBA Pre-Draft Combine in Chicago and watching him light up Lonzo Ball and UCLA in the NCAA Tournament, but are still widely expected to select Ball second overall.
Ball might only work out for the Lakers, but his father LaVar Ball said he would be willing to work out against Fox one-on-one. However, there is no sign that such a match-up has been or will be set up.
The Lakers’ next workout will take place Monday, when they bring in Jordan Bell of Oregon and several other potential prospects.
Here is an updating list of every player the Lakers have worked out or met with. Harrison Faigen is co-host of the Locked on Lakers podcast (subscribe here), and you can follow him on Twitter at @hmfaigen.
