The Los Angeles Lakers may have traded Marcelo Huertas to the Houston Rockets for Tyler Ennis at the NBA trade deadline, but he was soon bought out of his contract and has sat in free agency ever since..
Anyone paying attention to his Instagram feed could see that Huertas stayed in Los Angeles for the rest of the season after calling it home for nearly two years previously, but it appears he is now departing:
One last sunset last night! Time to head back home for the summer and get ready for the next chapter! Also time to thank all the support and all I've been thru this past 2 seasons in LA with all ups and downs! Glad to have met new people and for sure lots of them our friendship will carry on! Thank you LA, all Laker fans! Thank you also @graziella_cintra for being so supportive and for helping me to keep going thru everything without letting small obstacles bring me down! #bye #thankyou #lasunset
This is truly a sad day, as it likely (and probably permanently) signals the end of Huertas’ time with the Lakers.
The man also known as the Catalyt may never have gotten a ton of run, or played at the same level he managed overseas, but Huertas did become a cult fan favorite for his fearless and almost dangerously selfless style of play.
Plus, who could ever forget the day he earned his nickname:
Or his most legendary Lakers play:

Or even the time he did this:

Goodbye, sweet Catalyst. You will be missed.
