Jordan Clarkson says he’s ‘going to make playing for the Filipino National Team happen’

The guard sounds motivated to participate in international play.

Jordan Clarkson is currently in the midst of finishing up his third season with the Los Angeles Lakers, but he’s not done thinking about basketball just yet.

The combo guard, currently averaging 14.7 points and 2.6 assists on 44.3 percent shooting, has attempted to play for the Filipino National Team over the last two summers but ultimately been unable to make it work.

Clarkson says he’s committed to changing that.

“We’re going to make playing for the Filipino National Team happen,” Clarkson told Rahul Lal of CBS. “It just comes with time and being able to connect with those people. I feel all the support and love they had throughout my years in the NBA, so I’m still trying to do well for them and, hopefully, be able to put on for my country.”

Clarkson has seemed earnest about how much he wants to play for his mother’s country since he first began visiting the Philippines. Hopefully he and the team can work something out with the Lakers to make it happen over the offseason.
