The Lakers coaching staff is just as confused as you are about their defense sometimes

It would be more shocking if they weren't confused sometimes.

It’s not exactly breaking news that the Los Angeles Lakers make plenty of defensive mistakes. The team wouldn’t rank last in the league in defensive efficiency (giving up an 110.3 points per 100 possessions) without making some truly baffling errors on that end.

On some level, fans should be heartened to know that the team’s coaches are occasionally just as confused as the rest of us by the team’s decisions on the defensive end, and the latest episode of “Backstage Lakers” on Spectrum Sportsnet revealed that is indeed the case:

To be fair, most coaching staffs probably have moments in which they aren’t quite sure what their team is doing, but this is still a positive because it means the team isn’t just committing a carnival of errors because they’re being told to do the wrong thing. The Lakers’ coaches are exasperated too, and appear to be doing what they can to make sure the team takes baby steps forward on that end of the floor.
