In the immediate aftermath of the Los Angeles Lakers choosing to fire Mitch Kupchak and Jim Buss, while adding Magic Johnson as their new president of basketball operations, it’s not immediately clear who will replace them.
One name floated on Tuesday morning was sports agent Rob Pelinka, and it turns out he may not be the only candidate to fit that type of profile. According to Marc Stein of ESPN, “longtime agent Arn Tellem is also said to be on the Lakers' radar.”
Tellem has actually jumped from the player representation side of the negotiating table to the management one already, joining the Detroit Pistons front office as vice chairman in 2015.
In the Lakers’ statement announcing the moves, team president Jeanie Buss said “our search for a new General Manager to work with Earvin and Coach Luke Walton is well underway and we hope to announce a new General Manager in short order.”
