The Los Angeles Lakers have unveiled their final uniform design for the 2017-18 season, along with an interesting plot twist. The Lakers not only gave the world their first full look at the black-and-gold jerseys, but revealed that Kobe Bryant had a hand in designing the look.
The unveiling tweet notes it’s “For the city. By Kobe Bryant.” The words “LORE SERIES” are next to Kobe’s signature on the jersey as well. It’s unclear what “LORE SERIES” is — perhaps the Lakers plan on having more of their living legends design jerseys or other things in the future — but it’s something to keep an eye on.
We caught a glimpse of the jersey thanks to an NBA 2K leak a few weeks ago, along with the mock up from the great Conrad Burry, and it looks pretty dang close to what Burry had. The look is built around the jersey having a snake skin pattern across the majority of it, accentuated with purple-and-gold piping. The panels on the side of the shorts feature a star for each of the Lakers’ NBA championships, a nice detail paying tribute to the franchise’s history.
