The Los Angeles Lakers will slide into their baby blue Minneapolis jerseys when the Memphis Grizzlies pay a visit to STAPLES Center Wednesday night. The Grizzlies are in the midst of a total implosion, axing head coach David Fizdale mid-season, and aren’t looking any better after it.
Memphis has won just three games dating all the way back to Nov. 7, and remain without Mike Conley indefinitely. Marc Gasol isn’t carrying the franchise to the heights he once did, and Memphis has quickly tumbled toward the bottom of the Western Conference with a 10-24 record.
The Lakers have their own problems, of course, and could once again be without three starters. Brandon Ingram’s status remains in the air, missing two games while resting his aching quadriceps muscles. He’s been out of action since Dec. 22, just under a week, and could look to make it a full seven days if he’s held out against Memphis.
Kyle Kuzma has continued to be a bright spot even while the Lakers struggle, flourishing in the starting lineup while Luke Walton opts to start Andrew Bogut in Brook Lopez’s place. Kuzma has been providing the starters with some much-needed offense, but he can’t do it all alone.
This won’t be a pretty game of basketball, and while Memphis is far away from the peak of the Grit N’ Grind era, this is going to feature two teams trying to survive what should be a grinding, physical game.
