Dropping The Ball

Thursday night the Lakers suffered a 113-110 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. The Trail Blazers buried the Lakers as Damien Lillard came up with a clutch step-back-3-pointer with seven seconds remaining. The Lakers got their butts kicked, for lack of a better phrase. Lakers guard, Lonzo Ball struggled probably the worst with the worst offensive game of his career to date. Lonzo failed to score a single point in 28 minutes. He’s the first top five pick to do so in his rookie season since Dikembe Mutombo in 1992.

Lonzo made only two shot attempts missing both. He finished with 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 steal. This is what analysts would call really passive basketball. Lonzo is a young player who definitely needs to figure out how to stay consistent. Per his pattern so far this season, we can guess he’s going to come out fast paced and play aggressive against the Brooklyn Nets tonight.

I’m so torn with Lonzo Ball. Sure it’s very early in the season. But I think he portrays serious inconsistencies and very high highs and low lows. He has extraordinary games and then the worst games. It feels like he’s still figuring out his position. He plays so unselfish, he did the same at UCLA. But sometimes you just need to find your shots and take control of the pace.

Today critics seem to be questioning whether or not to count Lonzo Ball out as a bust. I don’t think that’s accurate. It’s still very early in the season to make that assessment. I think Lonzo just needs to continue to focus and work harder at playing aggressive basketball. Playing unselfish is advantageous to the team but making shots is also necessary.
