Lakers News: First round of training camp cuts come down from front office

The Los Angeles Lakers have made their first round of training camp cuts, unsurprisingly releasing V.J. Beachem and Stephen Zimmerman. The duo combined to play seven total minutes for the Lakers through preseason, making their dismissal an unsurprising end to their time with the purple and gold.

That leaves Vander Blue, Alex Caruso and Briante Weber as the remaining training camp invitees, while Andrew Bogut has yet to suit up for the Lakers. As it stands, it seems unlikely any of the above players unseat Bogut from the final roster spot, and the Lakers already have things squared away with Caruso as a pseudo 16th man on a two-way contract.

The Lakers have just two preseason games left, and the front of their roster is still very-much in need of time on the court. The writing was clearly on the wall for the first cuts, and it doesn’t take perfect vision to see how the rest of the roster will play out.

Injuries, and giving players any time off they need ahead of the regular season opener on Oct. 19, remains as the lone reason to carry 18 going forward.
