Lakers vs. Pistons: Start time, TV schedule and game preview

Will the Lakers spook Detroit into a loss on Halloween?

The Los Angeles Lakers are on their first losing streak of the season, dropping back-to-back games. Things aren’t getting easier to close out the first month of the year, with the red hot Detroit Pistons stopping by STAPLES Center.

Detroit has gone 5-2 to start the year, picking up wins over the Minnesota Timberwolves, LA Clippers and Golden State Warriors during their current streak.

This is going to be a massive challenge for the Lakers. Detroit is relentlessly attacking the paint, attempting 189 field goal attempts at the rim through seven games and converting on 115 of them. 60.8 percent shooting in the restricted area is a pretty good mark. You’d be shocked to know the Lakers have attempt 215 shots within 5’ of the rim at a 64.2 percent conversion rate.

The Pistons are also great at forcing turnovers, leading the NBA in steals. That could be very bad news for the Lakers, who are prone to coughing up the ball. This especially applies to rookie point guard Lonzo Ball, who’s flipping possessions at a team-worst 3.5 turnovers per game. His 21 turnovers leaves him tied at 19th for the most on the year. Notable names who’ve also coughed up the rock 21 times so far? How about Damian Lillard and Stephen Curry.

A win tonight would be big for the Lakers, taking down one of the top-performing teams. It’d also prevent them from going into Portland with a three-game losing streak, in the first half of a back-to-back, with D’Angelo Russell and the Brooklyn Nets on the other side back in Los Angeles. So, yeah. Go win this one, Lakers.

Enjoy the game, and be safe this Halloween!
