The Los Angeles Lakers are continuing to build up their new basketball operations focus under Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka, and they’re turning to a familiar face with the franchise to add to the off-court talent being gathered. Antawn Jamison is finalized details with the franchise to join the team’s scouting department, first reported by Shams Charania of Yahoo’s The Vertical.
Jamison was only on the team for one lone season, but he also spent time working with the Spectrum SportsNet crew. He’s also spent time covering college hoops for ESPNU, an opportunity he expressed excitement about in the past.
It’s unclear what kind of scouting role Jamison will play for the Lakers. Considering his work at the college level in the past, it’d make some sense to put him on a beat he’s familiar with and enjoys. He could also help any pro-level scouting the team does in-house.
Overall, there’s not a whole lot to take away from this. The Lakers are bringing on one of the most underrated forwards of his time to enrich the basketball knowledge they have internally, which should be a good thing.
