The maladies just keep coming for the Los Angeles Lakers. Starting power forward Julius Randle has been diagnosed with pneumonia and will be re-evaluated on Monday, the team announced in a press release. Randle missed the team’s most recent road loss to the Utah Jazz on Thursday.
Randle is averaging 13 points and 8.9 rebounds per game this season on a career-high 48.9 percent shooting, and the Lakers’ starting unit without him and injured point guard D’Angelo Russell was waxed by the Utah Jazz, posting a net rating of -32.5 in 12 minutes.
It remains to be seen how much time Randle will miss, but with Larry Nance, Jr. on a minutes restriction the Lakers will likely look to some combination of Tarik Black, Thomas Robinson, and Luol Deng to play power forward in his absence.
