The Los Angeles Lakers are full speed ahead at training camp, engaging in their first head-to-head scrimmage as a group Wednesday evening. It wasn’t a pretty showing as Lakers head coach Luke Walton briefed media on how things went in their first exhibition run, but Brandon Ingram’s defense stood out as one of the finer things of the night.

“Brandon’s defense was phenomenal yesterday — last night. He’s starting to really understand how to use his length in fighting over screens and contesting jump shots and making people miss,” Walton said. “That was the most impressive part to his game last night.“

Defense is a buzzword around training camp thus far, with their first day of training camp being focused almost solely on that. Jordan Clarkson’s also taking on the challenge of becoming a defensive presence, which would be a tremendous development for the young core. Any improvement in the defensive area is a plus for the Lakers, who gave up a league-worst 109.3 points per 100 possessions, per NBA.com.

Coach Walton’s leading standout was Marcelo Huertas, however. The Catalyst lives on.

Training camp goodies

Thankfully the Lakers and those covering the team have been very generous with the sharing of goodies from training camp. We’re getting pictures, videos and quotes on demand, making for a pretty cool look at what’s going on as they take their first steps together.

Shahan Ahmed of NBC LA and Yahoo Sports shared a pretty awesome look at all things Day 3, with some words from Luke Walton:

Music was a talking point among those in attendance for Day 3:

MORE MUSIC (ears beware this is loud, warned you):

And the Lakers’ digital team crushing it as usual:
