The Los Angeles Lakers’ Las Vegas Summer League team was expected to be a lot of things. D’Angelo Russell’s breakout. Brandon Ingram’s introduction. A Larry Nance, Jr. fanclub meeting.
What was not expected was for Ivica Zubac to burst onto the scene with the force of one of his backboard shaking blocks. That’s exactly what happened, however, with Zubac surprising everyone with just how quickly he adjusted to the speed of the NBA.
In fact, the only person the awesome first impression might not have been a surprise to was the big man himself.
"I always knew I'm going to fit the NBA style more than Europe," Zubac said in an interview on ESPN Radio (as transcribed by Jacob Rude of Lakers Outsiders). "I always felt that way. I don't know why."
It remains to be seen if Zubac’s game will translate as quickly to the normal NBA as it did in summer league, but his battle for backup minutes will be one of the most intriguing to watch during camp.
