D’Angelo Russell and the rest of the Los Angeles Lakers young players may be getting ready for the season in the mornings as part of the so-called “breakfast club,” but he’s also putting in some evening work. No, sorry random people replying to his Twitter account, not in the gym. Russell was whetting his appetite for NBA basketball the same way as the rest of us this week: by playing NBA 2K17.
“Playing” might actually not be an accurate description, because Russell clearly wasn’t messing around. The Lakers’ point guard dropped 41 points and a triple-double on his fellow sophomore, small forward Anthony Brown, and posted about it on Instagram on Saturday night.
With 11 steals, it was the type of performance that is only truly possible in 2K. Because of that, it would be asking far too much of Russell to pull it off in real life this season, but it’s not out of the question to expect one or two scoring efforts like this from the young guard this year.
Lakers training camp is just a week away, leaving us one step closer to getting to analyze actual basketball, box scores, and trash talk from Russell.
