The Los Angeles Lakers officially signed Brandon Ingram on Tuesday morning, putting to rest any speculation they planned to trade the second overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. The team surely hopes Ingram’s play on the court will reward the faith they showed in his potential by selecting him so high, and to live up to those expectations he will have to work.

Ingram got off to a head start on that right after signing his contract. Instead of heading out to enjoy what’s left of his offseason on a beautiful day in Los Angeles or sitting around looking at his bank account in disbelief (as most of us would have done), Ingram instead headed right into the weight room to work out with a bunch of the Lakers’ young core. We probably should have expected such a low-key reaction from a player whose first big purchase was a house for his parents:

After the strength session, Ingram and the crew headed to the practice gym to get a scrimmage in:

Seeing so many members of the team’s young players back in the gym during the dog days of mid-August is a promising sign for the Lakers’ rebuilding efforts. The young team may not end up being very good this next season, but no one can say they aren’t doing everything in their power to prepare for the coming campaign.
