Update: Lil B has said he'll consider lifting the curse if Russell plays him in one-on-one. I wouldn't hold my breath.
Original story follows.
The Los Angeles Lakers offseason had been going great. The team hired their top choice for head coach when they signed Golden State Warriors assistant coach Luke Walton to a five-year deal. Then they found out they would get to keep their first round draft pick and would select second overall. They also have the most cap space in the league to make free agent additions.
However, they may now be primed for some bad luck, if you believe in curses.
The team got lucky a few weeks ago when D'Angelo Russell narrowly avoided being "cursed" by rapper Lil B for recording a leaked video of Nick Young admitting to infidelity, but the man known as "the Based God" said he changed his mind during an appearance on ESPN's Sportsnation.
"This is a Sportsnation first. He is officially cursed," said Lil B, and if you're wondering why a rapper deciding if someone was "cursed" or not matters at all, I direct you to this explanation from when Russell had seemingly avoided the fate:
For those who are unaware, Lil B is a Bay Area based rapper who is best known on the basketball internet for putting a "curse" on Kevin Durant for insulting his music, and then doing the same to James Harden for mimicking a cooking gesture he used in a music video as his signature celebration (No, I'm not kidding. That's really what he's famous for.).
So does this matter? Normally I would say probably not, but then again, Durant did just suffer one of the most painful losses in Western Conference Finals history at the hands of the team Lil B supports.
So D'Angelo might be doomed. Or not. Who knows. It's the offseason.
