Lakers draft rumors: Skal Labissiere to work out for Los Angeles

New, comments

Los Angeles' front office is bringing in every player they can in order to make an informed decision in the draft.

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers will work out Skal Labissiere before the 2016 NBA Draftaccording to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders. Labissiere was part of a larger predraft camp organized by his agency today, but Kyler reports that the Lakers front office will bring him in to work out "on their terms" (h/t Honi Ahmadian of Lakers Outsiders).

Labissiere is the 9th ranked prospect on Draft Express and was projected to fall to the 11th overall pick in their latest mock draft. The Kentucky big man was seen as a lock to go in the top ten in the draft headed into the season, but a lackluster campaign in which Labissiere posted averages of 6.6 points and 3.1 rebounds in 15.8 minutes per game has seen his stock plummet.

Labissiere's workout is likely another case of the phrase of the month here at Silver Screen and Roll: "due diligence." Like Jaylen Brown and Henry Ellenson before him, the Lakers are highly unlikely to take him with the second overall pick, and there is almost no way he will drop to them at the 32nd overall selection. This is probably just a situation where the Lakers are working out everyone they can just to gather information on them for the future, as any good front office should.
