NBA Free Agency Rumors: Lakers to sign Timofey Mozgov to a four-year deal

Big money for a big man.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Update: Adrian Wojnarowski reports the Lakers and Mozgov have agreed on a four-year, $64 million deal. Original story follows.

The Los Angeles Lakers are making a "serious run" at Timofey Mozgovaccording to Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical, who reports that general manager Mitch Kupchak made his first call of free agency at 12:01 to the Russian seven footer. No, it wasn't the fake account. We checked.

The Cleveland Cavaliers center was a huge part of the team's run to the NBA Finals just one year ago, but was essentially benched throughout the playoffs on the team's run to the title this season. Mozgov averaged 6.3 points and 4.4 rebounds for the Cavaliers during the 2015-16 season.

The Lakers have a giant hole at center, so I guess this kind of makes sense? Mozgov is certainly an... interesting first target, but we'll have to wait and see what else the Lakers have up their sleeve before totally judging this seemingly strange recruiting choice, although it's hard not to feel like there were better options on the market.
