Lakers Free Agency Rumors: Chandler Parsons 'eyeing' Los Angeles

It sounds like both parties might be interested in a union.

Numerous reports have surfaced over the last several days citing the Los Angeles Lakers as having interest in Dallas Mavericks unrestricted free agent Chandler Parsons. It appears the feeling may be mutual, as Howard Beck of Bleacher Report reports that the Lakers are among four teams Parsons is "eyeing." Beck notes that Parsons is also focused on getting a max contract, and that he's ruled out a return to the Mavericks.

There is a lot to, ahem, parse here. Parsons has a history of knee injuries but otherwise is well worth the max as the cap balloons. The former second round pick has the ability to play both forward slots, is a capable three-point shooter (41.4 percent last season) who can also create off of the dribble, and a willing ball mover. On the other end, Parsons is a versatile and capable defender who can easily switch assignments and stay in front of smaller players when he's healthy.

This is going to sound simple, but especially in the wake of some of the top players on the market simply passing on meeting with the front office, the Lakers need to sign good players and get better. Maxing Parsons comes with risks to be sure, but they also might be the types of gambles worth taking for a team coming off of a 17-win season. If the Lakers believe their training staff can help Parsons stay in the lineup, then there is very little reason to not offer him the max and hope he signs.
