Kyrie Irving, whether intentionally or not, has done a lot to endear himself to Los Angeles Lakers fans this offseason. The high-scoring guard helped lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to the NBA title with his late game heroics in game seven against the Golden State Warriors, including a step-back three that gave the Cavaliers a lead they would never relinquish.
Following that game, Irving credited a "Mamba Mentality" for his clutch play, and it was only the first time he would use Kobe to describe how he was thinking or feeling this summer.
Irving posted a photo on Instagram of Bryant with the Lakers' 2001 NBA championship trophy. I would say "celebrating with the 2001 championship trophy," but Bryant looks relatively forlorn in the image. We can all probably empathize with the look on his face, however, because I think it's fair to say we all probably have the same one when we realize there is no more real basketball until October:
It's okay, Kyrie. Just enjoy your championship and you can watch the NBA's various summer league's when they kick off soon.
