Lakers draft news: Brandon Ingram says he sees the comparisons between himself and Kevin Durant

He also cautions he is not there yet, and wants to be his own player.

The Los Angeles Lakers are widely expected to take Brandon Ingram with the second overall pick in Thursday's NBA Draft (provided the 76ers do as predicted and select Ben Simmons with the first pick).

If that's how things go down, Lakers fans should be thrilled. As has been repeated over and over for the last several weeks, Ingram is a flawless fit with the Lakers' young core of D'Angelo Russell, Julius Randle, Jordan Clarkson, and Larry Nance, Jr. His shooting and (eventual) ability to lock down wing players on defense make him exactly the type of player all teams want in the modern NBA.

All of those features give Ingram a high "floor" as a prospect, meaning he'll at the very least be an average player in the NBA.

However, frequent pre-draft comparisons to Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant have set the target significantly higher for him in the eyes of many, and he mostly embraces that challenge.

"I definitely see the comparisons," Ingram said in a conversation with Draft Kings. "I try to take bits and pieces out of his game and put it in my game."

At just 18-years old, Ingram has a long way to go to reach Durant's heights, so while he doesn't shy away from the comparison, he also wants fans to know he's his own player.

"At the end of the day, he's Kevin Durant, and I'm Brandon Ingram."

Ingram also revealed his favorite NBA commentator, his celebrity crush, and spoke about his relationship with Coach K in two videos from Draft Kings:

Only a few more hours until Ingram (most likely) becomes a Laker, so until then, fans will just have to watch these videos and get excited about their future small forward.
