Lakers draft rumors: Wayne Selden has reportedly worked out for Los Angeles

Is he a real option for Los Angeles?

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers have worked out Wayne Selden, according to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders. Kennedy did not share when the workout took place, but it was surely part of a deluge of pre-draft prep the team has been undergoing over the past several weeks.

After a junior season for the Kansas Jayhawks in which he averaged 13.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, Draft Express ranked Selden as the 47th best available player in the 2016 NBA Draft. This means Selden could have an outside chance of the Lakers selecting him with the 32nd overall pick if he blew them away in his workout, but more likely the team is examining him in case he falls out of the draft entirely and becomes an undrafted free agent option for the Lakers' Las Vegas Summer League team.

Our own Tom Fehr, Kansas Alumnus and Jayhawks super fan, offered this quick scouting report on Selden from someone who watched nearly all of his games in college:

Selden is athletic, a good passer, and turned into a good shooter. He's also decent on defense. However, he's not great at creating his own shot. He disappointed early in college but turned into a pretty good player by the end.

So basically it sounds like this workout is more of our phrase of the month here at Silver Screen and Roll: "due diligence." Selden could be an interesting undrafted free agent for the Lakers, but given he's unlikely to fall that far, he probably won't end up in purple and gold after the draft on June 23rd.
