NBA Draft rumors: Ben Simmons doesn't plan to work out for Lakers or Sixers

Philadelphia is still likely to take him first overall.

The Los Angeles Lakers have begun working out prospects for their entire range of picks in the 2016 NBA Draft. The team has brought in top-ten projected picks like Jaylen Brown while also working out several candidates for their 32nd overall pick or players they might decide to pursue as undrafted free agents.

Two players that notably have yet to reportedly work out for Los Angeles are the two they are most frequently projected to take, Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram. The latter interviewed with the Lakers front office at the NBA combine but has yet to actually work out for the team and in the case of Simmons, that may not happen at all.

Simmons has "yet to commit to working out for anyone, including [the] Sixers and Lakers," according to Chad Ford of ESPN. Ford additionally reports that despite this, the Sixers will still "very likely" take him first overall.

Simmons not working out and still being selected first is not an unprecedented scenario. Last year's presumptive first overall pick Karl-Anthony Towns also initially passed on working out for the Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves before going being picked first in the draft.

While Simmons won't work out directly for teams, it's not as though he hasn't been working out. The versatile forward was seen earlier this summer working on improving his jump shot, and Ford recorded a bit more video of Simmons' upgraded stroke:

Simmons is also continuing to sharpen one of the most dangerous weapons in his tantalizing toolbox: his prodigious dribbling ability at 6'10:

All signs are pointing towards the Sixers taking Simmons, but they and the Lakers seemingly won't get much better access to his workouts than these Twitter videos until then.
