Lakers offseason news: Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance, Jr. are already working out for next season

Two members of the young core are back in the gym.

The Los Angeles Lakers are already getting prospects into their gym for pre-draft workouts, but some of their players are following suit on their own as well.  Jordan Clarkson may be headed to restricted free agency, but he still didn't wait long to head back to the Lakers' facility to get his offseason workouts started, something he's posted about several times on his Snapchat account.

Clarkson has already indicated that the hiring of new head coach Luke Walton has him excited to return to the Lakers in free agency this offseason. As a restricted free agent the team will be able to match any offer Clarkson receives, making it highly likely he'll be back in Los Angeles next year.

One player the team isn't in danger of losing is their second-year power forward Larry Nance, Jr. The bouncy power forward has followed Clarkson's lead, and says he's already begun working out for next year:

Nance, Jr. was already fairly efficient last season, with his 52.8 effective field goal percentage ranking as third highest on the team, but he's not wrong that it will be a key to his success going forward. Playing in Walton's Warriors'-like up-tempo system will likely help Nance, Jr. in this area, but one way he could get better would be by expanding his range.

Nance, Jr.'s future in the league is likely as a playmaking four, and adding a three-point shot would be huge for his development. As a rookie, Nance, Jr. shot just 10 three-pointers and only made one of those attempts. That's hardly a big enough sample size to draw conclusions one way or the other about Nance, Jr.'s potential as a three-point shooter, but if his capable mid-range stroke could be shifted back a few feet, it could help him make the Lakers' offense significantly more dangerous when he is on the floor going forward. A three-point stroke would also allow him and Julius Randle to potentially play together more.

Regardless of what specific developments come from it, it's a positive sign for the Lakers' organization that two members of their young core are already back in the gym getting ready to bounce back after the worst season in franchise history.
