The Los Angeles Lakers went to Hawaii for training camp last season but the positive vibes of the island life certainly didn't translate once the season started. The Lakers are keeping things focused in Los Angeles this time around, planning on holding their 2016 training camp in El Segundo, reports Baxter Holmes of ESPN.
Training camp in Hawaii was an old Lakers tradition, but the one-year revival will be just that for now. Moving the entire basketball operations team to Hawaii might be a bit much in the thick of an incredibly important year for the front office.
Dates for training camp have not been released, though things generally start ramping up around the facility by mid-September. Training camp started in the last few days of September last season, with their first preseason game on Oct. 4. The team has not released a preseason schedule for the 2016-2017 season yet, though did so last year by mid-May.
The preseason schedule, NBA Draft combine and looming draft lottery will round out the month in events for the Lakers, still not quite hitting the dog days of summer around the league.
