Jaylen Brown reportedly might work out for the Lakers on Saturday

The Los Angeles Lakers have the second overall pick in what is widely considered a two-player draft. Most analysts consider Ben Simmons of LSU and Brandon Ingram of Duke the clear top-two players in the 2016 NBA draft, with what is perceived as a significant drop-off in talent following those two players. Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak doesn't necessarily share that perception.

"It's way too early or premature to say there is separation between two and three," Kupchak told Mike Trudell of Lakers.com following the lottery results. "We'll start to work players out and bring them in."

The team reportedly might begin that process on Saturday, with Marc Spears of ESPN reporting that the Lakers might be among the teams to work out 19-year old Jaylen Brown on Saturday. Draft Express ranks the one and done freshman out of the University of California, Berkeley as the fifth rated prospect available in the draft after Brown averaged 14.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game in his lone NCAA season.

Brown was considered by some to be a talent on par with Simmons and Ingram heading into the college season, but was ultimately a tier below Simmons as a creator while not on Ingram's level as a scorer or outside shooter.

The latter problem is the biggest wart on Brown's game currently. While Brown's athleticism allows him to get to the rim with ease, he will face crowded lanes in the NBA without superb shooting around him or improvement in his own jump shot (Brown made just 29.4 percent of his three-pointers last season).

Brown is a solid prospect and might immediately contribute as a difference-making defender for whichever team selects him in June, but with Ingram and Simmons on the table, that team seems unlikely to be the Lakers.
