Brian Shaw says he's agreed to join the Lakers coaching staff

The team is just working out final contract details.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

Reports over the weekend suggested that former Denver Nuggets head coach Brian Shaw was close to joining Luke Walton 's Los Angeles Lakers coaching staff, and the man himself confirmed as much during a radio appearance on Wednesday.

"It's true," Shaw told Guy Haberman of 957 the game when asked if the reports of him rejoining the Lakers as an assistant coach were accurate. "At this point [we're] just finalizing the last details of the contract."

In addition to his stint as Nuggets head coach, Shaw was also a highly regarded and experienced assistant under Phil Jackson with the Lakers, as well as spending a year as an associate head coach with the Indiana Pacers.

It was previously reported by David Aldridge of NBA.com that Walton and the Lakers were attempting to hire Shaw quickly so he could serve as Walton's "proxy" during pre-draft workouts, which the Lakers will reportedly begin next week. If Shaw and the Lakers are able to work out his contract before then, it sounds like they will be able to meet that goal.
