Lakers offseason news: Julius Randle and D'Angelo Russell chosen for USA select team

The future is bright.

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

They are coming off of the worst season in franchise history, but two members of the Los Angeles Lakers' young core were recognized as among the best young talent in the league on Thursday.

D'Angelo Russell and Julius Randle have been invited to play for the Team USA Select team, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical. The select team scrimmages against the players in consideration to make the Olympic roster, and traditionally signifies players that Team USA believes can compete for roster spots in the future.

Russell and Randle joining the Team USA pipeline of talent mears that three of the team's young players are involved with their respective national teams, with guard Jordan Clarkson being involved with the Phillipines' national team as well.

Randle and Russell will gain valuable experience from playing against the best players in the world in Las Vegas, and if they continue to progress, in four years they could be competing for roster spots on the main team.
