Lakers vs. Clippers Preview: Kobe Bryant down to 6 games left in his career

The Lakers get to bunker down in Staples Center for back-to-back games against the Clippers.

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

The countdown to the end is winding down, with very little sand left in the hourglass of Kobe Bryant's career. We're down to just six games, and the Los Angeles Lakers are preparing for a back-to-back set against the Clippers. The first will be dressed up as a Clippers home game, with an expected tribute from the franchise to the Mamba.

We'll see if Kobe can keep the momentum rolling after dropping 34 points on the hated Boston Celtics. We'll see if D'Angelo Russell can shake off a six-turnover performance on 4-of-14 shooting, all while battling with Chris Paul. We'll see Julius Randle and Blake Griffin jostling for position as they work around the rim. There are things to watch within this game Wednesday night, but all eyes are on the winding down shot clock on Bryant's career at this point.

Draft lottery standings are standing still as the Lakers maintain their three-and-a-half game lead over the Phoenix Suns. The Clippers are essentially locked into the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference, currently set to take home court advantage over the No. 8 Dallas Mavericks. The race for the seventh and eighth seeds in the West is incredibly tight as the Houston Rockets scrape at the door, hoping to avoid a disastrous end to the year.

Enjoy the game. We're down to six.
