Ever since the Los Angeles Lakers pulled off their shocking upset victory over the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, the search has been on for a nickname for the team's backcourt of D'Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson. When you knock off the Splash Brothers, you need a nickname that can top theirs too.
Our own Daman Rangoola suggested "the Splash Brodies" in his retro-diary of the Lakers' win, but Clarkson has his own ideas. At the Lakers' Wednesday practice, Clarkson suggested to Mark Medina of the L.A. Daily News that he and Russell should be called "the Swag Bros."
Yours truly is still partial to "Splash Brodies" since 'brodie" is what Clarkson and Russell like to refer to each other as on their various social media accounts, but I could get behind "Swag Bros" as well. Russell certainly showed off some swag in the last week and a half, between his "ice in my veins" celebration and his ridiculous pregame halfcourt shot.Clarkson is a bit quieter, but shows off a certain amount of swag of his own with his unique sartorial choices.
It's a fine nickname, but the biggest obstacle to "Swag Bros" sticking is Nick "Swaggy-P" Young's inevitable trademark infringement lawsuit. Might be better for Russell and Clarkson to not #StaySwag in this case.
