The Los Angeles Lakers enjoyed a thrill ride thanks in no small part to a scintillating career night from D'Angelo Russell, but the young guard will need to keep that rolling as they visit the Denver Nuggets in the second half of a back-to-back set. Russell set a new career high, dropping eight threes on his way to 39 points and the highest scoring game of any rookie this season. Perhaps lining up against fellow lottery point man Emmanuel Mudiay will serve as motivation to go out there and dominate again.
The minutes should be there, especially with Lou Williams not making the trip to Denver after straining a hamstring against the Brooklyn Nets. Kobe Bryant remains a game-time decision, though it seems likely he'll play in this farewell tour game after sitting out Tuesday night.
This should be a schedule loss for the purple and gold, but riding the momentum of a statement game from D'Angelo could make this interesting. The Nuggets are a bit banged up themselves, with Danilo Gallinari out after tearing two ligaments in his right ankle, Kenneth Faried playing through lower back pain, and Mudiay dealing with tightness in his calf. A few things bounce the Lakers way and we may be looking at a two game winning streak.
Here's to hoping that ice is still surging through Russell's veins. Enjoy the game!
