Lakers vs. Knicks Final Score: Jose Calderon drills game-winner in 90-87 Lakers loss

The Los Angeles Lakers had an ugly Sunday outing in an 90-87 loss to the New York Knicks. Things began with a deafening thud as the Lakers scored just 11 points in the first quarter while shooting 15.8 percent from the field. It was a grand total of three made field-goals for the purple and gold through the first 12 minutes, which set the tone for a sloppy contest from both teams.

It was a close game by the end of it, though, with the Lakers taking a late-lead off of a Lou Williams three with under five minutes left in the fourth quarter. Kobe Bryant checked in for the final minutes and immediately posted up and scored, giving the Lakers their biggest lead of the night after being down by as many as 16 points. Carmelo Anthony heated up as the end drew near, breathing life back into the Knicks as he scored 12 points in the period.

Jose Calderon decided the fate of this game, though, draining a three-pointer off of a completely broken play. He drilled a shot over the top of Marcelo Huertas, leaving just .2 seconds for the Lakers to take a game-winning attempt of their own. The Lakers tried to get the ball to the corner for a three but it was futile.

Anthony finished with a game-high 26 points, making 10 of his 20 attempts. Kobe scored 14 points on 5-of-15 shooting. D'Angelo Russell was quiet as a mouse, going just one-of-seven from the field for four points, with two rebounds and two assists to go with it. Julius Randle didn't break double-digits in scoring (7) or rebounding (8). Jordan Clarkson, Randle and Russell sat through the entire fourth quarter.

The game was bad, the ending was wild and conflicting for a variety of reasons, and ultimately the Knicks won. Next up, the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday.
