The Los Angeles Lakers will christen the T-Mobile Arena out in Las Vegas for the first time of what will surely become a new exhibition tradition, bringing along the Sacramento Kings for the ride. The Lakers opened preseason with a win over the Kings, which feels like an eternity go at this point.
The first round of cuts hit the roster with no surprises. Zach Auguste, Travis Wear and Julian Jacobs were scratched, leaving two more necessary cuts before the regular season. Head coach Luke Walton has tightened up his rotation over the last two games, making their exit fairly predictable.
D’Angelo Russell’s shot couldn’t fall Tuesday night, leaving him with a bagel out of nine attempts from deep to reflect on. That’s one way to bring a young player down off of a 33-point performance, though Russell was incredibly humble about how much further the team has to go. The shots were within the offense, though, and Walton was clear he wanted Russell taking those attempts if he continues to be open.
An off night for a young player? Who knew!
Another chance for Brandon Ingram to put on NBA miles, Boogie and Julius Randle are an interesting matchup in the frontcourt, and preseason is mid-stride. Enjoy the game.
