D'Angelo Russell injures ankle against Kings, leaves game early

Russell suffered an ankle sprain in the Lakers' loss to the Kings.

D'Angelo Russell had just scored his 19th points of the second half and 27th points of the game as he and Jordan Clarkson attempted to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a come from behind victory over the Sacramento Kings. Then, Russell appeared to turn his ankle as he glided to the basket and finished.

Russell stumbled down the tunnel and immediately went to the ground in front of Kings general manager Vlade Divac as his teammates took a foul so they could check on the young franchise centerpiece. Russell's injury initially looked terrible as he laid on the ground, but afterwards it appeared he was doing so to err on the side of caution rather than risking further injury by getting up too early.

Russell then attempted to walk off the injury and re-enter the game, but was unable to play more than a possession before being escorted to the visiting locker room by Lakers trainer Gary Vitti. Here is video of the injury if you missed it:

Update: Mike Bresnahan of the L.A. Times reports that Russell's X-Rays showed no broken bones, and the Lakers are calling the injury a moderate ankle sprain.
