The Los Angeles Lakers selected D'Angelo Russell with the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft because they believed he had more potential to be a superstar than any other pick in the draft. A metric from ESPN's statistics website 538 agreed,ranking Russell as one of the 2015 rookies with the highest ceiling.
Russell has struggled at times during a rookie season in which he has averaged 11.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.2 steals while shooting 39.4% from the field and committing 2.3 turnovers per game. Difficult stretches mixed with flashes of star potential are par for the course with/ such a highly touted rookie who is still just 19-years old, and most Lakers fans have learned to take the good with the bad from Russell during a season in which the team is bound for the lottery anyway.
