The Los Angeles Lakers are among the teams with interest in signing enigmatic free agent center JaVale McGee, according to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders. Kennedy also lists the Dallas Mavericks as a possibility for the former Washington Wizards, Denver Nuggets, and Philadelphia 76ers center.
McGee has struggled with injuries in recent years, playing in just 28 games in the last two seasons. McGee has shown flashes of promise, but has struggled finding his niche while averaging 8.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks over the first five years of his career. He was selected with the 18th overall pick of the first round in the 2008 NBA Draft by Washington.
On one hand, we know what McGee is at this point in his career: an athletic specimen who has struggled to put together any extended stretches of strong play during his NBA career. On the other hand, signing McGee would mean reuniting him with former Wizards teammate Nick Young, and a possible reboot of "The Nick and JaVale Show."
Yeah, this would go over smoothly with Byron Scott, who's known to being oh so patient about players having outside distractions. Just ask Swaggy P.
