Lakers open regular season at home vs. Timberwolves, according to report

The NBA is showcasing the top picks of the draft for a big season opener in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Lakers will open their season against the Minnesota Timberwolves "barring last-minute changes," reports Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times. The NBA is set to release the full schedule Wednesday, but bits and pieces of the new season have begun leaking. This matchup sets up an opening night game featuring the top picks of the 2015 NBA Draft, D'Angelo Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns, in Staples Center.

Add in Andrew Wiggins, Kobe Bryant, local dunking dynamo Zach LaVine, Julius Randle and the rest of the talent between the teams and it should make for an interesting game to watch during opening week. Both teams struggled last season, but added another round of lottery talent and roster tweaks as they move forward. Bringing this group of talent together as the NBA opens its doors should be a fun way to start the year.

The Lakers are also expected to face the Clippers as the hosting team on Christmas Day, and the Philadelphia 76ers will travel to Los Angeles for New Year's Day. We'll follow-up with the full regular season schedule release as soon as it becomes available.
