Lakers expect to work out Karl-Anthony Towns, Mitch Kupchak updates pre-draft process

Will Towns work out for the Lakers?

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak wants to bring Kentucky's Karl-Anthony Towns in for a workout, but has so far been "unsuccessful," he told assembled media after Jahlil Okafor became the latest top prospect to work out for the Lakers on Monday. Towns is currently in Los Angeles working out in preparation for the 2015 NBA Draft, but reportedly will not work out for any individual teams.

Towns is the top prospect on nearly every draft big board and mock draft, but it has been reported that the Minnesota TimberwolvesFlip Saunders prefers the bruising low-post style of Okafor. It remains to be seen if the unbelievable workout footage of Towns will be enough to sway Saunders to select him first overall:

Kupchak said that he not only expects Towns to workout for the Lakers, he additionally believes that the top prospects will come back for a second workout in front of the team. Even if Emmanuel Mudiay, D'Angelo Russell, and Jahlil Okafor do not return for a second workout, Kupchak told media "our comfort level with the three players right now is very good."

The busy lead up to June 25th will continue for Kupchak, who will also fly to Las Vegas this weekend to watch Kristaps Porzingis work out on Saturday, as well as possibly one or two more European players as potential options for the Lakers 27th and 34th overall picks. Whatever rookies the Lakers eventually select, Kupchak gave them ample reason to be excited at the chance the Lakers take them:

Kobe Bryant being able to simultaneously ignore and say things to rookies is really proof he is the greatest of all time, but those rookies should beware; Bryant's glares do not usually bode well for your longevity in Lakerland.
