The Los Angeles Lakers will host a workout with Duke big man Jahlil Okafor on Tuesday, reports Ramona Shelburne of ESPN. The Lakers have begun evaluating talent in consideration for the No. 2 pick, and Los Angeles will be the first team Okafor works out with.
Okafor recently gave an update on his workout process, stating he's been working out three times a day with state-of-the-art technology as he prepares to make the move to the bruising NBA. He acknowledged that Karl-Anthony Towns wasn't planning on working out, but sounded anxious to finalize his plans and wow scouting departments. Jahlil rounds out the top three prospects the Lakers could look at, joining Emmanuel Mudiay and D'Angelo Russell as the first three players to make their case to Mitch Kupchak and the basketball operations team.
Kupchak hopes to bring in even more top talent before the team finalizes their plans with the second overall pick, but getting the first look at all of three of the highest-rated prospects is a nice feather in the cap for the front office to follow up a huge draft lottery. No Towns workout hurts, but locking up the other top candidates is another victory.
The Lakers have continued hosting both group and individual workouts, twice a day, as they prepare for the draft on June 25. Okafor will likely be the afternoon session, and we'll follow-up with media as it becomes available.
