The Los Angeles Lakers will get their first look at talent in play for the second overall pick when point guard Emmanuel Mudiay works out in El Segundo on Saturday, reports Shams Charania of Real GM. Mudiay's draft stock has taken a hit while players like D'Angelo Russell, Willie Cauley-Stein and Justise Winslow overshadow him.

Mudiay is often considered a dark horse candidate in the top three of the draft. He's become a lesser-known quantity, giving scouting teams only a small sample size to make observations of against talent in China. Emmanuel injured his ankle and played in just 12 games for the Guangdong Sourthern Tigers. He averaged 18 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6 assists per game while playing overseas.

The Lakers are hoping to host upwards of eight players who they will consider with the No. 2 pick. Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak is leading an effort to scout as many players as possible in preparation for the 2015 NBA Draft, set to take place on June 25. Mudiay was widely considered the top guard prospect and one of the top three incoming NBA players prior to the college season.

The Minnesota Timberwolves will also host Mudiay for a workout and are said to be "seriously" considering him with the No. 1 pick, according to Charania:

Emmanuel Mudiay has scheduled only two predraft team workouts so far: the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday and Minnesota Timberwolves on June 20 and possibly sooner, with the T'Wolves convincing the 6-foot-5 guard that he'll be under serious consideration with the No. 1 overall pick, sources told RealGM.

Minnesota recently reached out to Mudiay and its front office laid out a vision for a roster with him, Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine, sources said.

If nothing else, it's exciting to hear the Lakers are starting to get a look at some of the top talent available after spending the first few weeks digging through mostly second-round prospects.
