As Mitch Kupchak and the Los Angeles Lakers front office continue to prepare for the 2015 NBA draft on June 25th, they hosted another workout Wednesday of players who could be in play for their 27th and 34th overall picks. Aaron Thomas, Tyler Haws, Rashad Vaughn, Keifer Sykes, Richaun Holmes and Chris Walker worked out for the Lakers.
Vaughn-- who averaged 17.8 points per game for UNLV and was named Mountain West Freshman of the year-- is the most notable name among this group. Vaughn's combine measurements of 6'5 in shoes with a 6'7 wingspan would seem to slot him firmly in as a shooting guard in the NBA, where he would be backing up Kobe Bryant in his rookie season if the Lakers were to select him. It sounds like this would be a dream come true for Vaughn, who told media that Bryant was his favorite player growing up and even went as far as to say "I'd probably sleep at his house every night. I'm serious." Here is a video from Draft Express cataloging the strengths of Vaughn, who has often been compared to current Lakers scorer (and recently engaged) Nick Young:
Richaun Holmes, the other more notable name among the prospects working out for the Lakers, averaged 14.4 points and 8 rebounds per game in his senior season for Bowling Green. Holmes was projected to go 44th in DX's latest mock, and thus would seem to be valued lower than where the Lakers are selecting, but the team is probably just doing it's due diligence in case it wants to buy in to the second round once again, similarly to last year when the team bought the Washington Wizards 46th overall selection in order to obtain Jordan Clarkson. Here is video of Holmes dunking on and around people:
The Lakers are expected to host players in contention for their second overall selection next week.
