The Los Angeles Lakers decided to select Ohio State guard D'Angelo Russell with the 2nd overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft, leaving them with a hole to fill at center in free agency. Fortunately there are a number of free agent big men available this summer, including Brook Lopez, Kevin Love, Robin Lopez, DeAndre Jordan, Tyson Chandler, Greg Monroe, and several others.
The Lakers selection of Russell was partially due to the fact that they are becoming increasingly confident that they will sign LaMarcus Aldridge, who plays power forward and center for the Portland Trailblazers for the past 9 years, reports Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress.
Aldridge reportedly informed Portland that he will not return next season, paving the way for the Lakers to make an offer to the talented big man. The Lakers will have competition for Aldridge's services, with the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks, and possibly Houston Rockets all expected to make their pitch to him.
Free agency begins on July 1st, and the Lakers have promised to be aggressive.
