The NBA Draft is just over 24 hours away, giving outlets a small window to make their final projections. DraftExpress is one of the first major resources to do so, and Jahlil Okafor is projected to the Los Angeles Lakers with the second overall pick. Okafor has become the consensus player mocked to the Lakers at No. 2, and it still looks like he's set to join a franchise he's gushed about throughout the pre-draft process.
Karl-Anthony Towns goes first overall in DX's latest update, with D'Angelo Russell, Kristaps Porzingis and Justise Winslow rounding out the top-five.
For the second update in a row DraftExpress has Justin Anderson out of Viriginia falling to the Lakers with the 27th pick. Anderson is a three-and-D prospect who would address a huge roster need for Los Angeles. Landing both Anderson and Okafor in the first round would be a huge boost to the Lakers' rebuilding efforts, and they'd still have the 34th pick to utilize.
The Lakers are said to be "settling in" on selecting Okafor at No. 2 despite Russell making a very personal plea to be the man who leads L.A. back to the promised lands. Mitch Kupchak and the basketball operations team have hosted a plethora of options with the later picks, and are also reportedly exploring trade options to save salary space with No. 27 in case their preferred players are all off the board.
It's been Okafor at No. 2 since the Lady Luck smiled down on the Lakers on lottery night, and it's looking like it will finish off that way as the final mock drafts are filed.
