The Los Angeles Lakers are hosting their second round of workouts with prospects in contention for the No. 2 pick, but they may not get a chance to visit with Karl-Anthony Towns. After expressing optimism in meeting with Towns, the Lakers are now "increasingly doubtful" the big man out of Kentucky will meet with team before the NBA Draft, reports Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News.
Towns, meanwhile, is reportedly meeting with the Minnesota Timberwolves this weekend. Several sources assured ESPN's Chad Ford that while Flip Saunders likes Jahlil Okafor, he's going to select Towns on draft night. If he has that assurance from the Timberwolves there'd be no need for him to meet with the Lakers.
Los Angeles is focused on getting second looks at the remaining talent in the pool, with Okafor and D'Angelo Russell being the top two targets for the Lakers. Early in the pre-draft process it was reported Towns would turn down any private workout offers, and while he did host open sessions at gyms around California, he stuck to his guns on meet-and-greets until what looks like the end of the line.
The draft is June 25, leaving less than a week of speculation until the selections are in and the rebuild in L.A. moves forward.
