The Los Angeles Lakers are making a list and checking it twice as they prepare their selection with the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Jahlil Okafor will have a second workout with the Lakers on Friday, while D'Angelo Russell gets a second crack at impressing the Lakers on Saturday, reports Chad Ford of ESPN. The Lakers also brought in Emmanuel Mudiay for a second workout on Thursday.
Mitch Kupchak and the basketball operations team also took an extended look at European big man Kristaps Porzingis, watching him work in a group setting in Las Vegas. The Lakers then brought Porzingis to Los Angeles for a private workout, and while it's definitely something they're taking into consideration, the team is still likeliest to draft Okafor.
The pre-draft process has been thorough, scouting over 50 players ranging from lottery talent to prospects that will likely go undrafted on June 25. Kupchak established that their workload would be exhaustive, and they've backed it up with a tour de force schedule.
It's worth noting that it's been reported that neither Okafor or Russell left the Lakers "blown away" after their first auditions. Okafor struggled with the pace of the workout and Russell was dealing with an illness that eventually forced him to cancel his workout with the Philadelphia 76ers. The NBA Draft is one week out, giving the Lakers a tight timeline to make any final observations.
